New Year's Revelations 2011: Finishing Line To Graduation

Dear Friends,

As I write this entry, I have exactly 86 days until I finally finish the one thing I wanted to do: Graduate from college. I should have graduated either in 2001 or 2009 but I will be done with my associates in business this April. If you don’t know, I have wanted to have my degree for years. I started my journey in Detroit at University of Detroit Mercy in 1996. I should have had my bachelor’s and my master’s degree in 2000 and 2001. I dropped out because financial aid was not growing with tuition. I tried again in 2007 in Flint at Baker College and Baker College Online. I should have had my degree in Marketing in 2008 or 2009. So as we enter 2011, I finally can see the finish line. No one or nothing is going to stop me from getting my associate’s in business management.

In the last ten years, I have been on a rollercoaster of life. From being homeless to having my son, I have been fighting to get my degree. I see that having a college degree is something that is needed in this world. I cannot believe this is my time and I am at the finish line. Again, this is something I been fighting for. To see my family and my friends, see me graduate and also see my friends I have known for close to two years walk with me. This is a great deal. This is a huge fucking deal.

So what now? Well I am going to get through school. No more continues and no more mistakes. This is the final act of this part of my life. I’m going to be 33 this year and I want to say to people I have a college degree. This is not over because in 2013, I will have my bachelor’s degree and more. The only question is going to be if I will be in Michigan for that or not. There is more to come, my friends.
