Dear Friends,
This past Monday was MLK Day. I wonder what he would think of today’s world. Will he think we achieved peace in the world or we still have a lot to do to get there? Someone told me that he would not like people having a day off on his birthday. I might agree to a point because he wanted everyone to conduct themselves in a polite and Christian manner. When you think of Dr. King, we think peace and civil right for all. However, most people don’t even know what he wanted from all of us. Some people were very ignorant about the meaning of the day. One person out west wanted to set off a bomb just to make a point about disorder and chaos. Dr. King would have been disgusted.
We ask if he could have lived in this world. I don’t think he would have like the things that occurred after his death. JFK was assassinated just before he was. His brother was killed after MLK. So if all three did not die, this might have been a better country. King would have finished his non-violence marches, JFK and his brother would have shown the world that we could change the world, and even things like Mandela being imprisoned would have been shortened. It is nice to pretend and speculate but we live with what happened.
So what now? Well we keep living our lives and we try to remember what JFK, MLK and others wanted to do in the 1960’s and 1970’s: Peace in the world. We forget that peace is something greater than war or hatred. We still have people that want to destroy and hurt the American way of life. However, it is the universal way of life that is threatened because of people that want to disrupt peace. I hope to see a better world before I die.

New Year's Revelations 2011: Hope For Detroit and Michigan
Dear Friends,
Well this week, the new governor of Michigan gave his state of the state address to all the people in Michigan. Now from what I read and watched, I can see that he’s going to do more than our former governor. This is not a politician but a real businessman in office. I have seen in Detroit with Mayor Bing that a businessman is better to deal with government than a politician. As I watch not only how Detroit but the state of Michigan move away from the auto industry, I sense that things are never going to be the same. I cannot wait for 2015 or 2020 to come so I can see if Detroit and the state of Michigan can be better.
As I get closer to graduate, I know there is not a lot of work in the state. I want to stay in Michigan but that’s hard to do. I cannot go to Flint or Detroit because of the crime and horrible conditions in those places. I am in Monroe right now and this town is struggling like Detroit or Flint. So for those days of counting down, I have to see if I have a future in Michigan. The governor of Michigan cannot fix everything. He cannot make jobs for all. I know once I graduate, I will have to make work for myself. I cannot find something in my field. Businesses are still laying off employees left and right.
So what now? I have faith in the mayor of Detroit and the Governor of Michigan but will I be here to see a change in Detroit and Michigan. Like with other graduates of college, either I will leave the state or stay and move somewhere else to see if there are jobs there. Only time will tell but I know I cannot wait forever. There will be more to come.

New Year's Revelations 2011: Finishing Line To Graduation
Dear Friends,
As I write this entry, I have exactly 86 days until I finally finish the one thing I wanted to do: Graduate from college. I should have graduated either in 2001 or 2009 but I will be done with my associates in business this April. If you don’t know, I have wanted to have my degree for years. I started my journey in Detroit at University of Detroit Mercy in 1996. I should have had my bachelor’s and my master’s degree in 2000 and 2001. I dropped out because financial aid was not growing with tuition. I tried again in 2007 in Flint at Baker College and Baker College Online. I should have had my degree in Marketing in 2008 or 2009. So as we enter 2011, I finally can see the finish line. No one or nothing is going to stop me from getting my associate’s in business management.
In the last ten years, I have been on a rollercoaster of life. From being homeless to having my son, I have been fighting to get my degree. I see that having a college degree is something that is needed in this world. I cannot believe this is my time and I am at the finish line. Again, this is something I been fighting for. To see my family and my friends, see me graduate and also see my friends I have known for close to two years walk with me. This is a great deal. This is a huge fucking deal.
So what now? Well I am going to get through school. No more continues and no more mistakes. This is the final act of this part of my life. I’m going to be 33 this year and I want to say to people I have a college degree. This is not over because in 2013, I will have my bachelor’s degree and more. The only question is going to be if I will be in Michigan for that or not. There is more to come, my friends.
