New Year's Revelations 2011: Hope For Detroit and Michigan

Dear Friends,

Well this week, the new governor of Michigan gave his state of the state address to all the people in Michigan. Now from what I read and watched, I can see that he’s going to do more than our former governor. This is not a politician but a real businessman in office. I have seen in Detroit with Mayor Bing that a businessman is better to deal with government than a politician. As I watch not only how Detroit but the state of Michigan move away from the auto industry, I sense that things are never going to be the same. I cannot wait for 2015 or 2020 to come so I can see if Detroit and the state of Michigan can be better.

As I get closer to graduate, I know there is not a lot of work in the state. I want to stay in Michigan but that’s hard to do. I cannot go to Flint or Detroit because of the crime and horrible conditions in those places. I am in Monroe right now and this town is struggling like Detroit or Flint. So for those days of counting down, I have to see if I have a future in Michigan. The governor of Michigan cannot fix everything. He cannot make jobs for all. I know once I graduate, I will have to make work for myself. I cannot find something in my field. Businesses are still laying off employees left and right.

So what now? I have faith in the mayor of Detroit and the Governor of Michigan but will I be here to see a change in Detroit and Michigan. Like with other graduates of college, either I will leave the state or stay and move somewhere else to see if there are jobs there. Only time will tell but I know I cannot wait forever. There will be more to come.
